ECOitis

About ECOitis

Ecoitis (n): An irrational itch one gets when considering ways to save energy or money.

Oxford English Dictionary. (No, not really – but maybe one day!)

Economy-itis (ECOitis for short) came about as a result of the rising cost of energy and generally dealing with living with the effects of that, plus a general desire to do a bit to reduce our CO2 footprint as well as being just a little more self-sufficient.

The site has hints and tips that anyone can try out and will definitely help make a difference to an energy bill; there’s a section to help the budding DIY-er who feels they want to have a go at a few simple tasks but isn’t sure where to start or what tools they need.

We have lots of ideas that a more enthusiastic person can look into or develop further – and all while offering a general discussion around the whole idea of living comfortably without wasting two of your precious resources: money and energy.

For a bit of light relief, we have a myth-testing section where we set out to prove or disprove some of those things you may have heard. Let’s find out if Granny was right all along! (spoiler: she generally isn’t.)

Finally, there’s an Eco Home area; a collection of articles and studies that look into energy conservation in more detail. We cover how solar panels work & how to make best use of them, what solar storage means, explore water conservation ideas and generally take a tour around the concepts that, perhaps, will become common practice one day.

Writers

We welcome copy from budding authors on the subject of energy conservation, home DIY, good tips to help in the kitchen and so on; if you have an article you feel we should be featuring, let us know! We are happy to publish items of your own (please, no copying other people’s work) and you’ll get to see your name in lights – well, almost.
