If you have a pan that’s got burnt-on food then add some water, a drop of washing up liquid and leave it to simmer for a few minutes. Be much easier to clean after that.

I’m sure we’ve all had it: a frying pan with bits of food practically welded to the surface (non stick? Really? I don’t think the food got the memo about that!) but Gran. says she has just the thing to help. Over to assistant Eco. for this one, a fry-up is most definitely their speciality.
“Wow, an actual ORDER to do a full cooked breakfast! This is the life! Let’s see: bacon, sausage, an egg, bit of bread for frying and some beans…yummy. Back in a bit!!!
Cleaning time. So, water in the pan and a few drops of washing up liquid added. Onto the cooker and set to keep it simmering. I used hot water but I don’t suppose it’d make any difference if I started with cold.
I gave it five minutes and this looks good! Loads of floaty bits in the water that have come off the surface and it definitely took far less ‘sink time’ than usual to clean the pan up. Good tip!!“
There we have it: tried and tested by a professional eater of cooked breakfasts!
Top tip, Gran!
